Seeds

Producing African Violet from seeds is fascinating, but it is not recommended for the average amateur. Plants grown from seeds don’t come true as to variety, and a large amount of growing space is needed. To get a variety that is worthy of a name, you may have to grow a thousand seedlings and still be disappointed.

If you should still wish to try growing your Violets from seed, then simply try spreading them sparingly on African Violet mix, or some prefer vermiculite not covered (the seed is very fine) and cover with glass or plastic until they germinate. Don’t water overhead, instead water by immersing the seed pan in water until the top becomes moist.

When the seedlings get the second pair of leaves, they may be pricked out into trays or very small pots and then grown using the same method as for baby plants.
