Fresh Air

As is the case with any indoor plants, Violet’s benefit from adequate fresh air and light. Movement of air is also desirable, which an open door or window will provide, particularly when it’s warm. Don’t let draughts interfere with your Violet’s well-being.

Keep the leaves clean with a soft brush or with a gentle spray of warm water. Brush leaves from the centre outwards to remove dust; if you use warm water to clean the leaves, don’t put them in strong light until the leaves are dry. Flowers should not be sprayed with water, or they will probably be damaged. Dust-covered leaves prevent your violet from breathing, interferes with its built-in temperature control, and obstructs the all-important light, which not only is essential for flowering but also for the plant’s growth.

Don’t mix cut flowers from your garden with your Violets, as you will introduce pests and diseases. Wash your hands before handling your Violets if you have been handling other plants. Pests can travel into your house and on to your plants from your clothes!
